H Μαρίτα Τάταρη, Αν. Καθηγήτρια του Τμήματος Φιλοσοφίας του Πανεπιστημίου Πατρών, θα μιλήσει στο μάθημα για το έργο του J. L. Nancy γύρω από την κοινότητα και την επίδρασή του στη διαλογική αισθητική και στις κοινωνικές πρακτικές της δημόσιας τέχνης.

In public squares and spaces everywhere, we cross the shadows and stroll under the gazes of bronze conquerors and national heroes, sitting horseback or striding boldly, arms in hand. Anchors of ideology, these monuments honor the victors of history, as Walter Benjamin called them – those who step on and over the defeated, in an unbroken chain of domination stretching back into the mists of time. But the politics of remembrance are caught in the force field of violence, and the dead are called to both sides in the class war. The combat of cultures of the dead is integral to the struggles of the living, and therefore “not even the dead will be safe,” as Benjamin put it, “if the enemy wins.” Heroic memorials have become the flashpoints of contemporary struggles over the interpretation of history, all the more so as fascist mass movements establish themselves across Europe and much of the world. This talk looks at some recent episodes in a history of iconoclastic class struggle in so-called public space, from the interventions of the Situationist International following May 1968, to the 1998 dismemberment of the Spanish conquistador Juan de Oñate by an anonymous indigenous collective in New Mexico, to the antifascist mobilization against the 2017 Unite the Right rally at the statue of Confederate general Robert E. Lee in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Gene Ray is a critical theorist and Associate Professor at Geneva School of Art and Design. He is the author of Terror and the Sublime in Art and Critical Theory, and is coeditor of Art and Contemporary Critical Practice: Reinventing Institutional Critique and Critique of Creativity: Precarity, Subjectivity and Resistance in the ‘Creative Industries’. His essays and co-authored texts have appeared in Third Text, South as a State of Mind, Historical Materialism, Radical Philosophy, Monthly Review, Left Curve, Brumaria, Nordic Journal of Aesthetics, and Yale Journal of Criticism, as well as in numerous edited volumes.

From Chiapas, Mexico, a mysterious slogan has spread through the world: “For everyone, everything. For us, nothing” (Para todos todo, para nosotros nada.) In “Slow Orientation in Zapatismo”, 17 young people receive the message and put it to work in a Russian commune. Immersed in Zapatista irony and the tradition of “anti-culmination,” the film imagines other possible worlds in a slow process that is “a result in itself.”

Turner Prize nominees Forensic Architecture (FA), present their first solo exhibition in Greece, entitled “Violence, Fast and Slow” at State of Concept Athens, curated by iLiana Fokianaki. The exhibition is an overview of the agency’s varied and interdisciplinary practices. Known in Greece for their investigations of the murders of Pavlos Fyssas and Zak/Zackie Kostopoulos, FA will introduce a wide-ranging body of international casework, undertaken since the agency was founded by director Eyal Weizman in 2011. This presentation is focused on a core aspect of Forensic Architecture’s research, which they call “cartographies of violence”.
A Major Retrospective of Conceptual Pioneer Adrian Piper is Opening at Museum of Modern Art in 2018

THE MUSEUM OF MODERN ART (MoMA) in New York is presenting a major retrospective of conceptual artist Adrian Piper in spring 2018. The most comprehensive exhibition to explore her practice,”Adrian Piper: A Synthesis of Intuitions, 1965–2016″ will feature more than 280 works drawn from public and private collections around the world and be on view at MoMA from March 31 to July 22, 2018.
The treatment is long overdue. For half a century, Piper has produced pioneering work that has shaped the field of Conceptual art. She has influenced generations and received the Golden Lion Award for Best Artist at the 56th Venice Biennale in 2015 (above), but never had a major career retrospective.

Εργασίες δημόσιας τέχνης και το μάθημα Τι είναι τέχνη στον δημόσιο χώρο; φιλοξενούνται από το Πρότζεκτ Πλατεία Βικτωρίας του Rick Lowe και διοργανώνουν ανοιχτή συζήτηση με θέμα “Πλατεία Βικτωρίας. Ερωτήματα για τη δράση κοινωνικής τέχνης.” Η συζήτηση θα διεξαχθεί με τη συμμετοχή φοιτητών και φοιτητριών των δύο μαθημάτων, οι οποίοι θα θέσουν παραγωγικά ερωτήματα για την ενεργοποίηση του αστικού χώρου ως αρένα δημόσιου πολιτικού λόγου και ως δύναμη μετασχηματισμού σε περιοχές κοινωνικής διαμάχης, όπως η Πλατεία Βικτωρίας. Θα παρουσιαστεί η ηχητική εγκατάσταση Ενδυνάμωση της φωνής του φύλου. Ηχητικές πράξεις στην Πλατεία Βικτωρίας της Αγγελικής Διακρούση, που εκπονήθηκε ως πτυχιακή εργασία στο Τμήμα, στο πλαίσιο των ερευνητικών θεματικών του Εργαστηρίου. Το Εργαστήριο διερευνά τα τελευταία χρόνια χωρικές δυνατότητες δράσης με καλλιτεχνικές πολιτικές πρακτικές και δοκιμάζει πειραματικές εργασίες σε αστικές περιοχές που βιώνουν ριζικές αλλαγές εξαιτίας της μετανάστευσης, του εξευγενισμού και των κοινωνικών αποκλεισμών.

The Laboratory for Art/Architecture in the Public Sphere at the Department of Architecture of the University of Patras, hosted by Rick Lowe’s Victoria Square Project, has organized a public discussion with the participation of students in the Public Art course, who ask thought-provoking questions about the activation of urban space as an arena of public political discourse, and as a transformative force in regions of social conflicts, such as Victoria Square. The sound installation Empowerment of Gender Voice: Sound Acts in Victoria Square is being presented, realized by Angeliki Diakrousi as a diploma project, in the framework of the research topics of the Laboratory. During the last decade, the Laboratory has researched spatial agency through art-political practices, realizing experimental works on urban areas that have undergone radical change due to migration, gentrification, and social exclusion.

Στον απόηχο των εκλογών του 2016 στις ΗΠΑ, του Brexit και της παγκόσμιας κλιμάκωσης του εθνικιστικού λαϊκισμου, είναι εμφανές ότι το παραλήρημα και η κρίση του νεοφιλελεύθερου καπιταλισμού εμφανίζεται ταυτόσημη με το παραλήρημα και την κρίση της φιλελέυθερης δημοκρατίας και της κουλτούρας της. Και ενώ η καπιταλιστική κρίση δεν ξεκινά από την τέχνη, η τέχνη έχει την ικανότητα να αντανακλά και να ενισχύει τις επιδράσεις της θετικά και αρνητικά.
Σε συνέχεια του επιδραστικού βιβλίο του, του 2010, “Dark Matter: Art and Politics in the Age of Enterprise Culture ( Σκοτεινή Ύλη: Τέχνη και Πολιτική στην Εποχή της Κουλτούρας της Επιχειρηματικότητας)”, ο Sholette επιχειρεί έναν κριτικό διάλογο με συλλογικότητες καλλιτεχνών, αντι-ιδρύματα, και ακτιβιστικές ομάδες, ώστε να προσφέρει μια διορατική και σε πρώτο πλάνο περιγραφή των σχέσεων μεταξύ της πολιτικής και της τέχνης εντός της νεοφιλελεύθερης κοινωνίας. Ο Sholette προσφέρει ξεκάθαρα παραδείγματα της βαθειάς εμπλοκής της τέχνης με τον καπιταλισμό: τις υπέρογκες τιμές που επιτυγχάνουν εικαστικοί που υποθάλπουν πιστά τις οικονομικές ελίτ, την πλήθυνση των μουσείων που συμβάλλουν στον παγκόσμιο ανταγωνισμό για την προσέλκυση κεφαλαίου ανάμεσα σε πόλεις, και την παράξενη σχέση ανάμεσα στην τέχνη και την ανεξέλεγκτη ανάπτυξη που επαναχαράζει το αστικό τοπίο.
Με πρόλογο της καταξιωμένης συγγραφέα Lucy R.Lippard και εισαγωγή από τον θεωρητικό Kim Charnley, το νέο βιβλίο του Gregory Sholette “Delirium and Resistance (Παραλήρημα και Αντίσταση)” αντλεί υλικό από πάνω από τριάντα έτη κριτικών δημόσιων συζητήσεων και πρακτικών από τον εικαστικό χώρο και πέρα, ώστε να ιστορικοποιήσει και να υποστιρήξει την παράδοση του ακτιβισμού στην τέχνη, η οποία εμπλέκει ριζοσπαστικά, και συχνά παράληρηματικά, τις τέχνες με τους πολιτικούς αγώνες.

MACBA Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona is pleased to announce the opening of its exhibition Forensic Architecture: Towards an Investigative Aesthetics.
Forensic Architecture: Towards an Investigative Aesthetics presents the work of the architects, artists, filmmakers and investigative-journalists who make up the Forensic Architecture agency at the Centre for Research Architecture at Goldsmiths, University of London, as well as that of its collaborators and guests. Established in 2010, Forensic Architecture uses architectural analysis, models and animations as investigative tools, primarily for the production and presentation of spatial evidence in the context of armed conflict and political struggles. Evidences are presented in political and legal contexts, including international courts, truth commissions, and human and environmental forums.
