Instructions for Walking Women

 Instructions for Walking Women is a growing archive of instruction for walking written by and for women.

It is continuously developed through workshops and interventions in a variety of settings, and the cards are used to create performances that explore the way that women experience and navigate public space. Instructions can also be used privately as methods for exploring landscapes or considering who is allowed to walk where, and how.

The first Instructions for Walking Women workshop was held as part of a Sisters Uncut takeover of the NewBridge Gallery in Newcastle.

NEW YORK — Dressed in reflective yellow construction gear while working under the cover of darkness early Monday, a small group of artists installed a tribute to NSA-leaker Edward Snowden in a Brooklyn park.

But it was gone by midday.

The Snowden bust stood atop a column at the Prison Ship Martyrs Monument in Fort Greene Park, a site built to honor more than 11,000 American prisoners of war who died aboard British ships during the American Revolutionary War.

Tomorrow students will be making their first site visit to Ciutat Meridiana, a peripheral neighborhood of Barcelona and the subject of their first workshop in the masters course. The focus will be on “recycling” the existing urban and architectural barriers, as well as addressing the social challenges emerging in a neighborhood with the highest eviction rate in all of Spain.
